Description
Summary:Wear resistance is one of the important parameters of materials that is used as a disc brake. In its application, disc brakes that have been used will experience heating due to friction and this can cause an impact to its wear resistance. High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) steel ASTM A1088-13 have good strength and toughness, so it is predicted to have good wear resistance. Wear testing is done to determine the nature of wear resistance. It is done to find out the effects of post-use temperature towards the decrease in mass of HSLA steel. The testing was done using the pin-on-disk method and is evaluated for mass reduction every 3 hours for 12 hours of wear testing. Other than that, hardness testing and observations of microstructure change was also done using an optical microscope. The surface of the test experienced an 8% decrease in hardness from its original hardness. It was also observed that there was a change in microstructure which was indicated by the elongated shape of the microstructure. In general, the specimens used in the test experienced a decrease in hardness, with specimen TR having decreased by 0,33HV, T50 decreased by 1,46 HV, T70 decreased by 14,67HV, and T90 decreased by 4,87HV. A significant decrease in mass was not found when the ware testing was done on specimens that did not experience heating on 50,70, and 90°C in the 12 hours of testing.
