Description
Summary:This research is prompted by the need to find new resources in Konde Hill area and the lack of detailed research about laterites and bedrock characteristics in the area. The research area is part of PT. Vale Indonesia Tbk Mining Permit. The coordinates of Konde Hill's research area are 314.110-316.600mE and 9.716.397- 9.718.497mN (UTM 52S Zone), with area of 5km2. This research’s objective is to determine the characteristics of laterites and bedrock in Konde Hill. Data used in this research are DEM, field data and borehole data. Analysis on DEM and field data are used to determine geomorphological unit and topography in both areas. Analysis on field data are aimed to make geological map and cross section in both areas. Geostatistic analysis on borehole data containing assay data and borehole description are ultilized to determine characteristic of laterites and bedrock in both areas. Based on petrography analysis, bedrock in Konde Hill are weak serpentinized harzburgite and Dunite. Based on the kriging method of Nickel weight percent on bedrock borehole sample, it is intrepeted that Dunite concentrated on the middle of Konde Hill area while weak serpentinized harzburgite spreaded around Konde Hill. Based on the kriging method of RQD of borehole sample there are 2 fault directions dominating this area, NW-SE fault that is interpreted as the main regional fault of Sulawesi while the NE-SW fault is yet to be determined in the Regional Geologic Map. Terniery diagram analysis shows that the research area has type of dry laterites with silica deposition. Laterites in Konde Hill Area can be divided into limonite, saprolite and bedrock, thus indicated good lateritization. Based on the topography, the Konde Hill Area is divided into 3 areas, namely flat upland, hill slope and lowland basin. The ore zone in the flat upland area is in saprolite with high thickness. Whereas in the hill slope the ore zone is at the top of the saprolite also slightly at the bottom of the saprolite but the ore zone is found to be relatively thin. Then in the lowland basin the ore zone is found in limonite and saprolite zones with high thickness. Correlation between Ni and Co, Fe, MnO, and Cr2O3 was found in flat upland strongly positively correlated, on hill slope was positively weak correlated, and in lowland basin has moderately positive correlation to moderately strong. The enrichment pattern of Nickel elements in Bukit Konde laterite deposits is strongly influenced by lithology, structural patterns, and topography where the lithology of dunits, areas with high structural influence, and topography with low slope will facilitate nickel enrichment in laterite deposits.
