Summary: | Pure magnesium is suitable for orthopedic implants material according to it’s elastic modulus and biocompatibility. However, high corrosion rate of pure magnesium lead to it’s failure as implants. Coating on pure magnesium using organic compounds will cope with that drawback. Gallic acid is phenolic organic compound that is non toxic, metabolized in human body, and improve corrosion ressistance of magnesium. The research before results there was cracks on the coating surface may because of the solvent. Therefore, gallic acid coating were fabricated on pure magnesium substrate using ethanol and deionized water as solvents.
Using etanol results the better surface and low cracks compared to water with cracks density is 5.90% on ethanol compared to 30.42% on water. Corrosion ressistance using etanol is higher than using water with corrosion rate is 0.00024 mmpy on etanol compared to 0.00059 mmpy on water. Surface hidrofilicity using etanol is lower than using water with water contact angle is 47° on ethanol compared to 42° on water.
