ABSTRACT:

The objectives of this research are (1) to decrease the down time rate of the chemical milling facility due to the operation stop caused by improvements of chemical concentrations and (2) to reduce safety stock of chemical materials required for the improvements. The current down time rate is 36,4% and the safety stock of NaOH; Na2S dan TEA materials are 2500 Kg, 1400-Kg dan 1600 Liter respectively.

In order to decrease the down time rate and safety stock into a certain level, three proposed actions will be conducted, i.e.

a. To modify the material requirement planning system for materials Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH), Sodium Sulfide (Na2S), Triethanolamine (7EA). The approach currently used to calculate the materials required is based on historical data. To make a better acuracy of material planning, a new approach will be introduced i.e., a system based on the projected load of the chemical milling facility.

b. To develop an operation system for the chemical milling process.

c. To design a computer software for supporting the system operation.

By operating the computer software, the time required for materials

planning, and for conducting the laboratory test and the

improvement of chemical solution could be reduced.

The results of the proposed actions are (1) the down time rate reduced to 22.75% and (2) the safety stock levels of NaOH, Na2S dan TEA decreased to 1540 Kg, 810 Kg and 820 Liter respectively. This is equivalent to the inventory reduction of Rp. 37.360.000,- |
