Description
Summary:Casa Farm is a company that produces and sells hydroponic plants. Throughout their production process, numerous failures happened that caused these hydroponic plants not to be able to be sold to the market. The failures in the production process might be caused by the non-existent schedule and the necessary standards for the production process of Casa Farm's hydroponic plants. Based of the process classification framework published by APQC, scheduling acts as one of the business processes for Casa Farm. Meanwhile, Ungan (2006) states that business processes are one of the methods for process standardization. Besides that, process improvement might also help increase the efficiency and effectivity of a process (Harrington, 1995). Based on these facts, the issue throughout Casa Farms production process for hydroponic plants may be solved by conducting business process improvements. Therefore, this research aims to propose a method to improve the business process for Casa Farm's hydroponic plants. Improvements for the hydroponic plant production business process is done by using the Super Methodology (Lee & Chuah, 2001). It starts with selecting the process that will be improved, which is the production process. The next step is to understand more regarding the business process, this is done by mapping out the hydroponic plant's production business process while referring to Jacka & Keller's (2009) research findings. The research is then continued by measuring and improving the business process by determining the scope of production failure, parameters used for business process improvement, root cause identification for production failure, and proposing the improvements needed for the business process. The findings for the research proposes an improvement for Casa Farm's hydroponic plant production business process. The proposed solution is to add new business processes, which are creation of production standards, planning and scheduling the production process, and creation of production records. Hopefully, by implementing the proposed improvements for the business process, there will be an increase in the success rate of hydroponic plant production in Casa Farm.
