Description
Summary:Polyurethane is a snythetic material that has various applications, including adhesive agent, elastomer, and many more. In general, this various application is based mainly by different of microphase formed in the polyurethane. Some of the factor that influence this different of microphase are the type and composition of the base materials. This research is focused on investigating the influence of length of the chain-extender to the mechanical and physical properties of polyurethane. The method for this polymer synthesis is a two step polycondensation, where the reactants are 4,4’-diphenyl methane diisocyanate, risinoleic acid, and ethylene glycol, poly(etylene glycol) 200 and 400 as the chain-extender. Based on the result, a conclusion was drawn. The longer chain-extender is used the less cross-linked formed in polyurethane resulting in a declining mechanical properties, thermal properties, and the degree of swelling
