DESIGN OF PUBLIC OPEN SPACE IN KARANGSARI BEACH AREA AT PALABUHANRATU CITY

Karangsari Beach is one of the tourist attractions of the beach in Sukabumi Regency, which is located in the Palabuhanratu sub-district, Palabuhanratu City. Karangsari Beach is within a radius of 600 meters from the Palabuhan Market and Fish Auction Place, which are centers of trade and service activities in the Palabuhan City Center, so that the density of transportation that fills the Karangsari Beach area is so high. However, the current condition of Karangsari Beach looks deserted and neglected due to the abandoned port development project. The Karangsari beachfront area is not well organized and also has environmental issues that can affect the development of the area. As well as the issue that the function of Karangsari beach will be returned as a beach tourism area is again a concern. This study was conducted with the aim of formulating design ideas for the Karangsari Beach Area by adapting the concept of multifunctional open space as a response to reviving an area that has died because there is no activity in it, as well as overcoming water problems that occur in the area. The design method used is a fragmental method which begins with collecting issues related to regional design and producing regional design simulations. The designed area has an area of ± 7.17 Ha. In general, the functions to be developed are functions that can accommodate work, living, recreation and educational activities. Area design simulations are based on urban design elements which include land use, building mass intensity and arrangement, road and pedestrian network systems, open spaces, marking systems, preservation, activity support, and area utility systems. The concept of multifunctionality is its ability to meet the needs of diverse users, thereby appealing to diverse users with different recreational, cultural, and ecological needs/purposes.
