Summary: | LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 or known as LNMO is a cathode material that has potential in future applications for electric vehicles and electronic devices. This is because LNMO can work at high working voltage and high energy density. In this study, the solid-state methode was used to obtain LNMO materials. However, LNMO has problems with dissolving metal ions and electrolyte decomposition which can reduce capacity retention and cathode performance when tested at high current densities. The addition of LiAlO2 as a coating layer can protect the LNMO from degradation and improve the performance of the LNMO cathode. This is due to the LiAlO2 coating layer has ionic conductivity properties that can help lithium ion diffuse. The existence of the LiAlO2 as coating layer on the LNMO makes the surface morphology rougher but does not affect the crystal structure of the LNMO. The presence of the LiAlO2 coating layer on the LNMO has impacts on good rate capability performance and increase capacity retention after the battery has been tested for 150 cycles. In the other hand, the presence of the LiAlO2 coating layer also increases the conductivity of the LNMO as indicated with low resistance value of the battery.
