Summary: | Petroleum oil reserve is decreasing rapidly while the need of gasoline and the other fuel are
increasing. Therefore, we need alternative energy resources and one of the alternatives is
hydrogen, which can be used in fuel cell to generate energy. The problem is how to produce
hydrogen efficiently. One of the hydrogen production methods is methanol convertion by
photocatalytic method. Syntheses of ZnO and CuO/ZnO oxide as catalyst for methanol
conversion have been done with variation of CuO concentration to study the effect of CuO
doping in ZnO photocatalytic activity. Syntheses of ZnO compounds are found to be
maximum at pH 6.2. XRD study showed only ZnO peaks, means that CuO are distributed
evenly on ZnO surface with amorf structure. The activity test showed that the 5%-CuO/ZnO
has the highest photocatalytic activity in methanol conversion to hydrogen. |
