Summary: | Palembang as one of the oldest cities in Indonesia, leaves many relics to this day. Inter-ethnic interactions in the past formed cultural acculturation in Palembang. One of the places where there is a lot of social interaction is in the Musi River area. The Musi River has played an important role in driving the Palembang economy from the Srivijaya era to the present day. This river used to function as the main transportation route for foreign immigrants to trade and settle. The policies imposed by the previous government formed the patterns used by certain people on the banks of the Musi River. There are certain people who can still be found, one of whom is ethnic Chinese in Kelurahan 7 Ulu or better known as Kampung Kapitan. Kampung Kapitan itself is the first Chinese resident in Palembang which has been proclaimed a Cultural Heritage Area. Now the village only leaves some original buildings that are almost 400 years old which are in poor condition. Many building materials brittle with age. The condition of the land in the area has not been managed optimally, even though it has great potential. The decline in the physical quality of the area that is not repaired with improvements are feared to threaten the existence of the cultural heritage so that a restoration strategy is needed in the form of area revitalization. One form of revitalization that can be applied is building restoration and landscape arrangement with the Historic Urban Landscape approach, which is an approach recommended by UNESCO in developing historic urban landscapes that integrates the goal of preserving cultural heritage with aspects of social, cultural, and economic development. Efforts to revive the image of the Kampung Kapitan area are expected to increase public awareness of the importance of preserving historic sites on the banks of the Musi River in Palembang. |
