Description
Summary:Tin metal is often used in various sectors of life, such as solder material or tinplate coating that can be applicated in packaging of canned food, electronic, chemical industries, and construction. In Indonesia, tin is found in nature in the placer deposit, such as alluvial form, while the amount of hard rock (lode deposit) is not so much. Primary tin ore from lode deposit as alternative producer of tin should be taken into account. Primary tin processing is often using gravity concentration method combined with flotation method. Flotation method was done to optimized fine-sized cassiterite. In this research, the flotation of primary tin ore from Bangka Island and the influence of pH, type of collectors, the concentration of collectors, and the fraction of the size of the ore towards the recovery of Sn and Sn grade in concentrates are observed. A series of experimental activities was done firstly by preparation of the ore, including crushing, grinding, and sieve analysis. The characterization methods used in this experiment are X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), and mineragraphy. Then, the flotation experiment was performed at various operating variable. The first experiment is to compare the performance of AERO 6493 (alkyl hydroxamic acid based) and oleic acid as collector. The optimum pH value of each collector was also searched. Collectors that provide the best performance was used for testing the next variation. Variation of the collector concentration was done on the value of 100, 200, 300, and 400 g/tonnes, while the size fraction of ore was done on the value of -150 +106, -106 +75, -75 +45, -45 +38, and-38 ?m. Flotation experiment using collector AERO 6493 had the optimum result at pH 9 while oleic acid at pH 11. Both types of collector didn’t provide any significant differences at Sn recovery and grade, so oleic acid was selected as collectors to be used on the next trials. The optimum concentration of collectors was achieved at 400 g/tonnes which resulted Sn recovery and grade of 85.45% and 44.40%, respectively. As for the fraction size of ore variaton, the optimum result was achieved at the range of size -75 +38 ?m with the best Sn recovery was achieved at -45 +38 ?m of 94.42% and the best Sn grade at -75 +45 ?m of 49.05%.
