Improper waste management can lead to serious environmental and economic consequences. 3D printing technology provides a solution to the challenges facing the plastic recycling industry by allowing waste to be recycled into 3D filaments. Despite the availability of recycled PLA and ABS filaments, mass-production of recycled HDPE filaments has not yet been achieved. HDPE is not commonly used in 3D printing due to its shrinkage and poor adhesion properties. Blending HDPE with other materials, such as dammar, can improve its printability and reduce its shrinkage. The present study aims to investigate the effects of blending recycled HDPE with dammar on the printability of the blended filament. The research was conducted through a series of experiments involving the purification of dammar, the fabrication of blended recycled HDPE/dammar, the fabrication of filament blended recycled HDPE/dammar, 3D printing, and characterization of 3D printing products. Results showed that dammar composition had a significant impact on the blending properties, with higher dammar percentages leading to improved flowability and density of the blended filament. Additionally, the printability of the blended filament was found to increase with increasing dammar composition, with the best results obtained using a 30% dammar composition. This study provides insights into the utilization of recycled HDPE waste in 3D printing and contributes to the development of sustainable 3D printing materials. text |
