Summary: | The textile industries produce wastes from dyeing process that can cause pollution into the
environment. Several methods have been investigated to remove dye from environment, such
as adsorption by charcoal. One of the most abundant source of charcoal is rice husk, an
agricultural waste. In the present work, two type of charcoals, namely natural rice husk
charcoal and activated rice husk charcoal, have been used to adsorb textile dye Acid Red 4.
In this method, 0.5 gr of rice husk charcoal was soaked in solution of dye for 4 hours and the
concentration of remaining dye was determined by using visible spectrophotometry. It was
found that both natural rice husk charcoal and activated rice husk charcoal can be used to
adsorb textile dye Acid Red 4 with adsorption capacity 0.152 mg dye/g and 7.587 mg dye / g
of natural rice husk and activated rice husk, respectively. |
