Summary: | The use of motorcycles as a mode of last mile freight transportation is often found in urban areas in Indonesia. This raises important problems to pay attention to such as limited canying capacity and relatively short range. For this reason, in this study, optimization modeling was carried out for the problem of determining routes with motorcycles as a mode for last mile fi"eight transportation.
Minimizing total distance is used as the objective function of the optimization model that will be converted into the cost for delive1y of goods. The Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) method is used as the main method of route determination with PSO to solve route determination problems. The model was tested with a routing problem for 1 drop point serving 26 customer locations with an existing road network in the city of Bandung. The application used for the modeling process is MATLAB.
Based on the results of the model, the optimization model used in this study can already produce route arrangements for last mile freight transportation. The results of the model show the assignment of vehicles for the delivery of goods with the minimum total mileage, total travel time, and total vehicle operating costs from various scenarios related to demand, number of vehicles, and distribution of goods delivery areas.
