Summary: | Nagari Tuo Pariangan is an area in West Sumatra which still maintains Minangkabau cultural. This area is believed to be the place where the Minangkabau civilization began. This belief is supported by historical evidence in this area. The unique geographical conditions are an added value for Nagari Tuo Pariangan to become one of the popular tourism destinations in Tanah Datar Regency, so that the local government makes Nagari Tuo Pariangan one of the leading tourism destinations. Management of cultural, historical and natural aspects in this area relies on community-based tourism management, where tourism managers in this area are local communities. In this year Community- based tourism in Nagari Tuo Pariangan received positive appreciation from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, namely Anugerah Desa Wisata Indoensia (ADWI) as a Developing Tourism Village. In 2012, Nagari Tuo Pariangan achieved one of the most beautiful villages in the world, which was published on an American online site, namely budget travel. Because of the achievements, the management of tourism and the community in the region becomes something that needs to be learned and researched about the tourism management which can bring up advantages that can be an example for other regions and the deficiencies that become an input for optimizing tourism in Nagari Tuo Pariangan. Research on these aspects can use a qualitative approach with data sources obtained directly through observation, documents in the region and potential informants that are able to explain in detail about important information related to the development of tourism needed based on indicators of tourism development. Based on the results of the study, the development of community-based tourism in Nagari Tuo Pariangan has been classified as advanced, this is obtained from the assessment of each stage in a process of implementing community-based tourism in a tourist area. The stages are divided into two parts, the developing stage consisting of four stages, and the advanced
stage consisting of 5 stages. Based on all the stages, monitoring and evaluation is a stage that has not been applied.
