ECOLOGICAL RISK ANALYSIS AND ANALYSIS OF MACROZOOBENTHOS COMMUNITY STRUCTURE IN MICROPLASTIC POLLUTED ENVIRONMENTS (CASE STUDY: MIDSTREAM CITARUM RIVER)

Microplastics are pollutants that can be found in almost all parts of the earth. Its small size allows microplastics to be ingested by organisms from various trophic levels. The combined effect of the concentration and type of microplastic polymer can be identified through an ecological risk anal...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/72035 Microplastics are pollutants that can be found in almost all parts of the earth. Its small size allows microplastics to be ingested by organisms from various trophic levels. The combined effect of the concentration and type of microplastic polymer can be identified through an ecological risk analysis. Research on the analysis of ecological risk of microplastic pollution based on the concentration and type of polymer and its impact on the distribution of macrozoobenthos in the Midstream of Citarum River has never been reported to date. This study attempts to analyze the ecological risks posed by microplastics using the pollution load index and the potential ecological risk index. The results of the risk analysis will be tested for correlation with the distribution of macrozoobenthos and biotic index. This study uses macrozoobenthos species from the order Diptera (Chironomus sp.) to represent macrozoobenthos communities in microplastic analysis. the average concentration of microplastics in the midstream Citarum River was 6.82 ± 6.94 MP particles per 100 g of sediment. It was found that the average particle MP/mg wet weight (BB) of Chironomus sp. is 1.41 ± 0.48 MP/mg BB particles. There is a strong correlation between the amount of microplastic in sediments and the amount of microplastic in macrozoobenthos (r = 0.90). PERI is negatifly but weakly correlated with BMWP (r = -0.31), but moderately correlated with H' (r = -0.52), J (r = -0.52), and the abundance of Chironomus sp. (r = -0.55). PLI showed moderate correlation with BMWP (r = -0.36) and the abundance of Chironomus sp. (r = -0.42). The amount of microplastic in sediments has a moderate negatif correlation with BMWP (r = -0.34), H' (r = -0.39), J (r = -0.39), and the abundance of Chironomus sp. (r = -0.48). text
