Summary: | The DKI Jakarta Government Water Resources (SDA) Service carried out a sediment dredging program to address silting of reservoirs due to sedimentation, which is one of the factors causing flooding in DKI Jakarta. The relay method using an amphibious excavator is the most frequently used in dredging programs today. However, this method requires a lot of amphibious excavators that are not accompanied by the availability of tools. This study identifies the current dredging operating conditions and proposes a strategy for using dredging methods and combinations that suit the characteristics of the reservoir using the Arena simulation software. The current dredging plan is not based on the actual operating conditions of heavy equipment, site characteristics, and references for fuel consumption is too focused on amphibious excavators. On the other hand, the fuel consumption reference is not in accordance with the current operating conditions in the field, where a 25% fuel increase is required for each equipment to be able to work during the planned working hours. The Arena simulation results show that the productivity of the mechanical dredging method with the help of barges and the hydraulic dredging method can be an alternative to current dredging operations with dredging distances of more than 100 meters. The strategy for determining the dredging method in the flowchart is developed based on the characteristics of the reservoir, which consists of four stages, namely the dredging distance from the edge of the reservoir to the middle of the reservoir, the ease of mobilizing the dredger, the availability of temporary storage locations and the existing depth of the reservoir on the suitability of each alternative method and equipment. With the flow chart, it is found that the application of the relay method is only effective in the West Jakarta area. While in East and South Jakarta, the dredging method is more effective using the hydraulic method and in North Jakarta, the use of barges and the hydraulic method is considered more effective. Dredging methods that are based on reservoir characteristics can increase the utilization capacity of owned dredgers and achieve more effective dredging targets.
