Summary: | Walking in Asian cities including Bandung is a difficult activity to do. Based on the
pedestrian facilities study conducted by Asian Development Bank, Indonesia has
the forth lowest walkability index in Asia, it means pedestrian dan walking
environments in Indonesia is not foot-friendly. Generally, there is a lack of relevant
policies, dedicated institutions and political support that cater to the needs of
pedestrians in a developing cities (Krambeck, 2006). During this time, the
government focuses in dealing with these issues was through the development of
guidelines and regulations related to pedestrian facilities but the description about
pedestrian infrastructures condition’s aren’t yet known. One of the methods that is
used to describe the pedestrian path is to determine the level of its walkability.
Walkability is a terms used to measure pedestrian infrastructure in a
comprehensive manner. Walkability used to support sustainable urban system and
become a parameter of whether or not an environment friendly to pedestrians.
This study aims to identify walkability level of pedestrian infrastructure facilities in
several centers in Bandung city. Using quantitative analysis method, which consist
of a content analysis, analitical hierarchy process, and quantitative descriptive
analysis. Content analysis is used to determine variables which affecting the
walkability level and to determine which method is applicable in study area. Global
Walkability Index developed by Asian Developmet Bank is used for the calcuating
method. Then, analitical hierarchy process conducted to determine the value of the
factors that cause walkability level on the assessment that has been selected.
Futhermore, quantiative descriptive analysis performed to describe the level of
walkability assessment of each segment of the existing pedestrians paths in the
research are. Overall, the result show that walkability level in Bandung;s center is
in the ‘waiting to walk’ category |
