Summary: | Risky rider behaviour is still the main cause of the high number of motorcycle accidents in Indonesia. This study aims to identify the factors that cause traffic accidents on motorcycle, especially on aspects of risky behaviour of motorcyclists in Indonesia. These objectives will be achieved through two stages of research. The first stage is to develop a survey instrument in the form of a representative and validated questionnaire to assess the rider behaviour in Indonesia. The questionnaire was prepared based on previous research studies regarding the motorcycle rider behaviour questionnaire (MRBQ). The second stage is conducting a survey by distributing questionnaires in Indonesia. This study uses 75 indicators to measure the eight variables studied, namely traffic errors, control errors, traffic violations, speed violations, safety equipment, safety violations, stunts, and local behaviour. A total of 370 data were successfully collected based on the homogeneous purposive sampling technique and processed using the PLS-SEM technique. The results of data processing using PLS-SEM show that the 8 factors significantly influence risky rider behaviour where the traffic violation component has the highest influence on risky behaviour aspects of motorcyclists in Indonesia. The second finding of this study is that there are differences in risky behaviour between riders on Java and Sumatra. Motorcycle riders aged 17-29 years, female, last high school educational background often take risky actions on factors of traffic errors, safety equipment, and safety violations. Then, motorcycle riders aged 30-39 years, female, last high school education background often takes risky actions on control error factors and local behaviour. Meanwhile, motorcycle riders aged 17-29 years, male, last high school educational background often perform risky actions on traffic violation and stunt factors. Lastly, motorcyclists aged 17-29 years, male, last undergraduate and postgraduate education background often commit risky actions on speed violation factors.
