Description
Summary:Geographically, the research area is located within the latitude of 6?42’00” - 6?50’00” S and the longitude of 107?23’00” - 107?27’30” E with the total area approximately ±137 km2 . The majority of the research area covers the Cikalong Wetan District with the rest being Cipeundeuy, Cipatat, and Padalarang Districts. Cikalong Wetan is an urban development project of West Java Government and is also a prospective transit stop for the JakartaBandung high-speed rail system plan; therefore, a planning of landfill site is required at this early stage for a good urban planning. The aim of this of research is to propose a potential location for the sanitary landfill by analyzing nine specific criteria which consist of seven geological criterions and two nongeological criterions. The geological analyses include the rock hydraulic conductivity, groundwater depth, ground movement susceptibility, slope, and distance to rivers and lakes, springs, and faults. The two non-geological aspects are the distance of the nearest settlements and Cikalong Wetan District to the proposed landfills. Using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), the potential landfill sites are to be analyzed based on the benchmark mentioned above to produce a suitability map that divided into four zones, including very low (0.001-0.089), low (0.089-0.179), moderate (0.179- 0.268), and high (0.268-0.357) suitability zones. Based on the study conducted, it is concluded that there are eight high suitability zones situated at research area, where Pasir Malang, located at the west side of the area, is regarded to be the best location for the sanitary landfill site. Pasir Malang is roughly 10 kilometers away from the center of Cikalong Wetan and 300-500 meters away from the nearest settlements. The lithology of the site is Quarternary Volcanic rocks with the hydraulic conductivity of low-moderate. The slope is 0 to 12% whilst the groundwater depth is 9 to 13 meters. The susceptibility level of ground movement is low to moderate. The distance from the nearest river is around 230 meters; springs is 1.3 kilometers; and fault is 4 kilometers. Pasir Malang is compatible for area method of sanitary landfill by cutting down the steep slope to act as covering materials.
