Description
Summary:Family caregivers can be defined as family members or relatives who provide voluntary care to patients at home. Their responsibilities include assisting patients managing and preventing illness as well as carrying out daily activities. In terms of age, family caregivers are usually old enough to be responsible to provide care but are still young and active enough with financial income, or in other words, are in their productive age. The role of the family caregiver is important not only for patients but also for the health care system. Family caregiving is a continuous responsibility that is physically and emotionally demanding thus can lead to heavy load of stress. However, the welfare and personal needs of family caregivers are often taken for granted because the people around them and the family caregivers themselves are too focused on the patient's condition. Therefore, this report was written to design an animation with the aim of increasing awareness of the importance of the role of family caregivers and how to support them. This animation is aimed towards the productive age with a focus on young adults. Based on the results of the data, it was found that the animation design that can meet these objectives is an animation that lasts four minutes with a story that focuses on one theme, conveyed through characters, goals and conflicts that can attract empathy. The animation tells the story of a young adult family caregiver's fight to care for his mother despite having various limitations. The emotional pressure experienced by the family caregiver is visualized with visual symbolisation like cracks on her body. Animation conveys the message of the difficulty of caregiving alone and the importance of the support from other people and is packaged in a dramatic narrative and visual style that attracts empathy from the audience and gives a lasting message.
