Description
Summary:Resonance phenomenon at the extreme scale can damage the environment. This phenomenon may occur due to the absence of breakwater construction to dispel the coming wave currents. Therefore, we will examine the effect of porous breakwater on resonance phenomenon. There are three observed cases, consists of the placement of: one block rectangular submerged porous breakwater, two block rectangular submerged porous breakwater, and combination of one block rectangular submerged porous breakwater along with one vertical rectangular porous breakwater. Analytically, we will find the basin’s natural period value using a modified shallow water equation model for the two-layer case. The basin’s natural period value is a parameter needed to observe the resonance phenomenon. Afterwards, we will do several simulations using numerical scheme which is derived from the finite volume method on a staggered grid. Based on the simulation, we will define the porous breakwater’s dumping coefficient needed to stop the resonance phenomenon.
