Description
Summary:Human always has a desire to decorate something to fulfil their aesthetic needs, as well as textile goods. In textile, the needs of decoration can be fulfilled through surface design method. Tritik is one of the surface design resist-dye techniques which involved stitch as its resist. This technique was practiced in so many countries, including Indonesia. The specific visual look of tritik is its line that constructed by dots which make it seems like slashed, and in addition is its three dimensional texture that was formed because of the pulled stitched thread before the colouring process. Tritik used to be combined with other resist-dye technique, such as plangi and batik, to create decoration on fabric. Exploration was done by experimentation on several aspect of tritik (fabric type, stitching technique, and colouring process) to discover new performance which could add new alternative variety on Indonesian textile world, nonetheless tritik is a traditional surface design technique. Experiments on tritik as the media of decorating creation on fabric surface could be more vary based on each designer’s creativity. Accordingly tritik would not only be a complementary surface design, instead it might arise to be the main attention of a fabric.
