Summary: | The elastic parameters of the rock can provide information on the strength of the rock against the
load given to it. Information about rock parameters is needed in the construction of buildings,
dams, bridges, reactors, and so on. Investigations into the properties of these rocks need to be
carried out and developed in an effort to obtain rocks that suit the needs. One of the methods used
to utilize the principle of elastic waves is to use a Sonic Viewer machine. This research was
conducted to determine the value of ultrasonic wave velocity and rock elasticity parameters. The
calculated elasticity parameters such as Poisson's ratio, Young's modulus, Shear's modulus, Bulk's
modulus, Lame constant and porosity in rock samples. In the experiments carried out, the electrical
waves were converted into mechanical waves and flowed through the rock samples. The
propagation time of the rock samples obtained is displayed on the oscillator screen. This delay
time is used to obtain the P wave velocity (Vp) and S wave velocity (Vs) of the sample. The speed
of this wave is used to determine the elastic parameters. From the data obtained, the range of P
wave velocity values is 833 m/s to 5000 m/s, then the range of S wave velocity values is 417 m/s
to 3333 m/s. Poisson's ratio values range from 0.1 to 0.467. Young's modulus values range from
1.8×106 Pa to 1.9×108 Pa. Shear modulus values range from 6.9×105 Pa to 8.2×107
. Bulk modulus
values range from 1.8×106
to 8.8×106
. The range of values for the Lame constant is 1.4×106
to
3.3×107
. The porosity values produced in this study ranged from 0.6% to 36.9%, with the smallest
porosity values being produced by samples 9 and 10 and the largest by sample 5. |
