Bintuni Basin tectonic evolution mainly based on results of interpretations on seismic lines, time structure map, isochron map and palinspatic reconstructions. Several major geological features that affected the tectonic history of Bird’s Head form the boundaries of Bintuni Basin. The Sorong Fault Zone and Kemum High are on the northern of the research area, the eastern part is bounded by Lengguru Fold-Thrust-Belt, to the south by Tarera-Aiduna Fault, and to the west by OninKumawa Anticline. Seismic interpretations on 232 2D lines were able to perform by using the principal of seismic stratigraphy. From seismic interpretation, wells data and regional stratigraphy, there are eight horizons that can be identified (megasequences). Structural patterns in the research area are NW-SE, N-S and WE trend. Extensional phase with SW-NE extension started from Perm until Early Oligocene. In this phase, Bintuni is part of passive margin. Compressional phase started from Early Oligocene until Recent marked by Early Oligocene unconformity. In the Early Oligocene-EarlyPliocene, the Bintuni Foreland Basin is formed by N-S trending thin-skinned thrust faults Arguni activities which is part of the Lengguru Fold-Thrust Belt. In the Miocene, NW-SE thrust faults and folds were cross-cutted by younger W-E trending strike-slip fault of Miocene age. text
