It affects both wealthy and developing nations, including Indonesia. One of the provinces that produces the highest amount of waste in Indonesia is DKI Jakarta. This project, Garbage Garden, emerges as an effort to reduce unprocessed waste by creating a facility that functions as community containers for waste processing, particularly organic waste, and integrated with advanced processing functions like urban farming to maximize the benefits of organic waste processing in the form of compost. This project is situated in South Jakarta's Tebet Barat neighborhood and covers an area of 11,500 m2. In addition, the project also focuses on maximizing social functions by developing public areas where the general public may gather, and also supported by other facilities such as commercial areas and workshop areas. The project aims to change people's perception of waste and its negative processing processes by creating facilities that are acceptable to the community, allowing them to directly participate in its activities. There are three issues that need to be addressed in the design: maintaining the functions of the site's green open spaces and public areas, designing waste buildings that are acceptable to the community, and developing an educational environment. These three issues respond to the functions of the processing building in relation to the site conditions and surrounding context. The main concept to address these three issues is the design of a landscrapper building. A landscrapper is a building that is intended to blend in with the surroundings by being partially buried, decreasing its outward appearance and obstruction of the site's view. With the green roof of the landscrapper building, maximum green space and public space can be created, operational activities can be separated from recreational activities to minimize their negative impact on the environment, and an educational environment can be experienced directly by visitors in each space. The project comprises of a large, landscrapper main structure that was mostly built using concrete for both structural and architectural reasons. Climbing plants are placed on the facade elements to transform the massive image of concrete and reduce the heat absorbed by the building. text |
