Description
Summary:Mental disorders are a frequently discussed topic in Indonesia. The issue of mental disorders itself is considered urgent due to the high number of individuals affected. Despite the urgency of the mental health problem in Indonesia, the treatment of mental disorders is still limited. The existing psychiatric hospitals or mental rehabilitation centers do not adequately support the healing process. Poor management of mental disorders is further exacerbated by negative stigma from society and the lack of understanding among the public about mental disorders. Individuals with mental disorders are often stigmatized and discriminated against by society. Many of them experience harassment and human rights violations. From these issues, this project has three main objectives: to design a rehabilitation center for adolescents with depressive disorders using a therapeutic environment approach, to create an environment that supports social interaction among all users, and to provide a space that equips patients for post-treatment. The project occupies land near RSUP Persahabatan, located on Bajubang Street, Cipinang, Pulo Gadung District, East Jakarta, DKI Jakarta, with a land area of approximately 8,700 m2. The location has high accessibility and is situated in an ideal area. The design issues addressed consist of three main aspects: designing the mental rehabilitation center facilities according to applicable standards, designing the rehabilitation center with a therapeutic environment approach, and designing for adolescents to encourage social support. To address these three issues, several design concepts are used. The first concept is a house-like environment, where the building mass is simple and has a triangular roof, resembling a house and blending with the surrounding context. The second concept is compound massing, where building zoning and massing are designed as a compound to provide a more homey atmosphere, avoiding long corridors while increasing access to outdoor spaces. The third concept involves integrating nature into the design, including sunlight, vegetation, and water. Nature is incorporated visually and audibly, allowing users to experience the presence of nature within the building.
