Description
Summary:The level of community literacy is an important part of national development and is included in one of the visions of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Palasari Book Market is a book market in Bandung that serves as one of the choices for the community to access books in a more affordable price. Unfortunately, book sales in this market have declined and require revitalization. On the other hand, Bandung has book communities that have the potential to be developed but do not have public spaces to accommodate their activities. The purpose of this project is to revitalize Palasari Book Market by integrating the market activities with reading community activities in Bandung City. Therefore, it is hoped that the market activities and book communities can support each other and create a public area with a literacy theme. Based on these goals, the main design issues in this project are the lack of reading community spaces to support literacy activities, the decline in buying and selling activities in Pasar Buku Palasari, and the lack of permeable public spaces. The project incorporates three design concepts: revitalization, flexibility, and permeability. Revitalization is achieved by redesigning the market area to make it more attractive, while still considering the effectiveness of buying and selling activities. Flexibility is the concept of creating a flexible and adaptable market and community area that meets the needs of sellers and visitors. Permeability is the concept of creating an area that can be easily accessed by visitors, both in terms of accessibility and visual aspects. Thus, Palasari Book Market becomes not just a trading area but also a literacy-themed public space that invites the general public.
