Description
Summary:This project is a project to design tourism and recreational facilities for the Fort of Kedung Cowek by utilizing maritime cultural sites in the city of Surabaya. Indonesia as an archipelagic country with a lot of potential in it has an exotic coastline of approximately 81,000 km and a water area of 2/3 of the country's entire territory. Starting from there, various potentials emerged, ranging from natural to cultural potentials. One of them is the Fort of Kedung Cowek on the north coast of Surabaya City which is surrounded by various natural potentials, from the sea, trees, to swamps. Fort Kedung Cowek has quite high historical value and has been standing for more than 50 years so it is designated as a cultural heritage building. However, there has been no development of the area as a form of preserving maritime cultural heritage. Three design issues are formulated through the project's vision as a tourism and recreation facility that can revive the Fort of Kedung Cowek by utilizing maritime cultural sites in the city of Surabaya: nature-based space experiences, sustainable recreational facilities, and contemplative educational facilities. The design strategy was developed to bring history to life through a continuous process as an embodiment of the basic design concept of "Rescucitate The History". The main function of the building is divided into three, namely the historical gallery, restaurant, and souvenir center. The design site is located in the military area of the Military Regional Military Command V Brawijaya, Kedung Cowek Village, Bulak District, Surabaya City. The building mass's size, basic shape, orientation, and placement are designed to be in harmony with the fort so that a dialogue is created between the building mass and the landscape of the fort. This dialogue space is then used as a visitor activity orientation center.
