Culture cannot exist independently without humans as its supporters, thus there is a dialectical relationship between humans and culture. However, the world is currently facing the phenomenon of globalization, which leads to international integration of perspectives, products, ideas, and cultures. This national integration causes the degradation of local cultures and resulting in the loss of local identities. Bengkulu City has a valuable cultural asset, but it is not used properly by the government and society. Based on the 2020 Cultural Development Index, Bengkulu has the lowest score in the category of cultural expression and cultural economy. The low score is due to the lack of participation, interest, and concern of society towards their local culture and the lack of government support for cultural activities. To address this issue, an architectural project has been initiated with the objective to preserving and developing Bengkulu's culture, with the younger generation as the main actors in order to maintain the local identity. Additionally, this project also serves as a new tourism space, contributing to the local economy and providing better exposure to Bengkulu's cultures. The project is located in Bengkulu City, on a land area of 7000 m2, and is initiated by the Bengkulu City Department of Tourism, which is also promoting the creative economy and culture of Bengkulu City. Therefore, the project's vision is formulated as "Establishing a cultural center as a place for the preservation, expression, development, and economic aspects of local culture as the sustainable Bengkulu identity”. The project is designed using the concept of Regionalism Architecture, forming masses and expressions that represent the local identity. The expressed identity is inspired by the “Bubungan Lima” House as the traditional house of Bengkulu and the Rafflesia flower as Bengkulu's native flora. The designed cultural center consists of a maximum of three floors, accommodating various cultural activities. This cultural center is expected to be a catalyst for cultural development in Bengkulu City and increase the attractiveness of cultural tourism in Bengkulu City. text |
