Description
Summary:This study aims to analyze the effect of porous asphalt clogging on drainage capacity through surface runoff and permeability parameters. Pure asbuton is used as a binder to increase the quality of the mixture. The study simulated the condition before and after the occurrence of porous asphalt clogging with variations in sediment load, gradation, and rainfall intensity. Determination of the gradation of the mixture through a trial process with the limit conditions according to ASTM D7064/D7064M ? 08 (2013). The simulation uses the falling head and rainfall simulator tools. In addition, an analysis was also carried out on the macro and micro texture of the porous asphalt surface as a supporting factor for driving safety. The test uses the British Pendulum Tester (BPT) and the sand patch method. The test results show that the sediment load affects the decrease in the infiltration capacity of the porous asphalt mixture. The infiltration capacity of a porous asphalt mixture with a VIM of 20.67% can decrease by up to 22% when pore clogging is simulated with a sediment load of 780 gram/m2. Rain intensity of 110 mm/hour can only restore the ability to drain water in the three porous asphalt mixtures by 11%. There is no surface runoff in all mixtures either under normal pore conditions or clogged by sediment. Among the three porous asphalt mixture designs, the mixture with 23% VIM had the best pore clogging resistance against the simulated sediment load. To produce a mixture with a high VIM, the porous asphalt mixture gradation is designed with a low uniformity coefficient (Cu). Then, from the aspect of driving safety, porous asphalt mixtures produce high surface roughness.
