This study was aimed to determine the dose rate of natural background radiation, to compare the dose rates at the study sites with several other regions in Indonesia and the world, as well as to map the natural background radiation dose rates. Measurement of natural radiation dose rates above ground level (ambient dose) was carried out using a NaI(Tl) scintillation detector and Geiger Muller mini Radiac which can directly measure the radiation dose rates in the field. The research locations cover 5 sub-districts in Mamuju Regency where there are 75 measurement points and the position coordinates of these points are recorded using the GPX Garmin Etrex 10. The measurement technique is carried out with a grid system measuring 2 x 2 km2 . Measurements were done with a distance of one meter above the ground and right above the ground surface. The measurement results show that there is a significant difference in the values of the two detectors used. The average value of natural radiation dose rate obtained from measurements using a NaI(Tl) scintillation detector is 0.21 ?Sv/hour or 1.86 mSv/year which is lower than the results of measurements using Geiger Muller with an average radiation dose rate value the average obtained was 0.78 ?Sv/hour or 6.79 mSv/year. The average annual effective dose value received by the population is around 0.37 mSv/year, lower than the international standard set by UNSCEAR which is 0.48 mSv/year. The average annual radiation dose rate in Mamuju district is the highest in Indonesia. Gamma radiation dose rate distribution mapping was made using QGIS 3.28.2 software where the natural radiation dose rate at the measurement locations are distinguished by color. Furthermore, the measurement of natural radiation is applied to physics learning in schools by making modules that aim to assist students in understanding the sources of natural radiation and how to measure them text
