Cadmium contamination results from its use as a component of nickel-cadmium batteries or electroplating. The adsorption method is an effective method for separating cadmium(II) ions, this method has the advantage of being a fast process and does not require a lot of chemicals. Metal Organic Framework (MOF) is a potential adsorbent material that has good porosity and large surface area, so it can be used as an adsorbent for cadmium(II) ions. The ball mill method is a solvent-free synthesis method that no hazardous waste is produced and fast synthesis, also carrying out the concept of green chemistry. In this study, synthesis of MOF type Ui0-66-Nlll was carried out using the ball mill method and tested its performance for adsorption of cadmium(II) ions, as a comparison Ui0-66-Nlll was synthesized using the solvothermal method. Synthesis of Ui0-66-NH2 using ball mill method was carried using precursors cluster of oxozirconium acetate and 2-aminorephthalic acid, the milling reaction was carried out at a speed of 500 rpm with an optimum time of 5 hours. The results of the IR characterization of the product obtained a peak that corresponds to the Ui0- 66-NH2 structure. There was also a shift in the C=O peak in the product indicating that the product Ui0-66-NH2 was successfully synthesized. The Ui0-66-Nlll product was also confirmed by XRD with Ui0-66-Nlll from ball mill method has smaller crystallinity and crystal size than the solvothermal method, indicating the presence of crystal defects. For the Ui0-66-Nlll ball mill and solvothermal methods, the optimum conditions for cadmium(II) adsorption occurred at pH 6 with a contact time of 30 minutes. The models of adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherms obtained were pseudo second order and Sips isotherms with maximum adsorption capacity 133.58 mg/g for the Ui0-66-NH2 ball mill and 81.11 mg/g for the solvothermal. The selectivity test results obtained at pH 5, Ui0-66-NH2 are not selective to cadmium(II) ions and can adsorb copper(II) ions and lead(II) ions. Synthesis of Ui0-66- NH2 using the ball mill method was successfully carried out which is more environmental friendly and has better adsorption ability than the solvothermal method, making it a potential sorbent for application in adsorbing cadmium(II) ions. text
