The complexity of this procedure is high, making it difficult for experts to provide training due to the high costs involved. One solution is to use a haptic simulator so that experts can practice on a virtual patient. Modeling a haptic simulator requires data on force and torque characteristics during pedicle screw insertion. Force and torque characteristics data is obtained by experimenting the drilling process under conditions similar to pedicle screw insertion. Experimentation begins with finding a homogeneous material with mechanical properties similar to goat vertebrae. Goat vertebrae is used for reference in this experiment because of the similarity to the human vertebrae. Experiment is followed by the creation of a drilling process experimentation system before the experiment can begin. Drilling process experiment needs to be performed in a controlled environment. PVC foamboard and polyester resin are homogeneous materials with similar hardness to bone. The drilling process experimentation system was created using Robotiq FT 150 force and torque sensor and linear potentiometer position sensor mounted on a vertical machining center (VMC). The test findings indicate that the force and torque characteristics exhibit a decreasing trend with an increase in rotational speed, and an increasing trend with an increase in feed rate. PVC foamboard has force and torque characteristics similar to bone, as evidenced by the similarity of the graphs, the maximum force achieved during drilling at a position of 4.9 mm, and the difference between the maximum force values of goat bone and PVC foamboard being smaller than that of polyester resin. text
