Summary: | The increase in Indonesia's population is inseparable from the role of a mother who brings new individuals into the world. However, the physical trauma and psychological discomfort resulting from childbirth, as well as all aspects of life, must be faced by mothers alone. These conditions carry the potential for baby blues or even depression in the mother, moreover, new mothers tend to be vulnerable to pressures from socio-cultural values prevalent in Indonesian society. Additionally, short hospital stays do not guarantee the mother's readiness before discharge. Standing as an extension facility of RSIA Grha Bunda, this project is a specialized facility designed to accommodate the medical and care needs of mothers in their journey towards the birth of a new individual, and even during the postpartum recovery process, which contributes to the physical and mental well-being of postpartum mothers before they return home, thereby reducing the occurrence of baby blues and postpartum depression in society. This project will serve as a healthcare center with additional functions of promotion, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, education, and recreation. The project's design will focus on increasing the number of delivery facilities and providing postpartum facilities so that mothers who have given birth and completed their postpartum treatment can continue their non-medical care under the supervision of healthcare professionals. The building mass consists of 2 basement floors, 3 podium floors, and two towers, namely the Inpatient Healthcare Center tower (4 floors) and the Postpartum Care Center Accommodation tower (7 floors) with their respective rooftops.
This project is formulated based on the following issues: hygiene, safety, and security; environmental considerations regarding psychological comfort, acoustics, visuals, thermal conditions, and olfactory factors; as well as appropriate spatial grouping or zoning to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of activities within and between spaces. To address these issues, a design concept based on patient-centered, therapeutic environment, and salutogenic design principles is proposed to support patient recovery before discharge.
