This issue has caused most kids to travel to the cities to find better medical support. Because of that, there is a need to create a free home to shelter the children while they stay in the city to get cancer treatment. This project is a cancer patient home which would become a temporary home for the children while staying in Bandung. Aside from providing residential needs, this facility also offers educational activities for the children who are unable to continue their education because of cancer. There are also some rooms to accommodate recreational activities, such as playgrounds and a library. The building is located on a 4.000 m2 lot area in Bijaksana Dalam street, Sukajadi, Bandung city. The area is within the range of 1 km from Hasan Sadikin Hospital, which is one of the public hospitals for cancer patients in Bandung. This project aims to solve several issues, which are: creating an ambience which supports the healing process of the patients, a safe environment for children, and designing an inexpensive building to help the foundation save expenses. The zoning of the building separates into three areas according to the crowd level surrounding the site. Building composition is then arranged into smaller mass to match the children’s perspective. As an effort to reduce operating costs, the building is then designed to use natural daylight and ventilation. Some facilities are also programmed to be used together by the residents so that the foundation does not have to provide many rooms. The interior of the building is filled with colors which can give therapeutic effects on the patient’s psychological condition, such as using green on bedroom walls, and using yellow along with blue pattern on classrooms. text
