Summary: | The Sunter Reservoir has been transformed into a center for water sports and tourism, where national athletes and the surrounding community can engage in various water sports disciplines such as swimming, rowing, jet ski stunts, rubber boat races, and water ball recreation. The development of the reservoir, which was initially delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has finally been executed. However, the sports facility at West Sunter Reservoir is still far from being considered adequate. The surrounding public spaces also do not reflect the social life and interactions of the local community. In addition to serving as a flood control measure, the Sunter Reservoir should be utilized for sports, socio-economic activities, and cultural events for the people of Jakarta. This revitalization program is designed to bring together the water sports community and the local population, creating an urban public space that symbolizes a contemporary city and acts as a tool for urban revitalization, thus reclaiming the lost identity of the Sunter Reservoir. The revitalization also includes the organization of local street vendors who currently lack proper facilities.
This project is designed to provide a public space that invites tourists to enjoy inclusive activities for various types of visitors. By maximizing the existing potential, namely the water sports community, local economic actors, and the natural elements of the Sunter Reservoir, this project aims to create positive impacts on the surrounding urban context. There are three main concepts in this project: Urban Connectivity, Promoting Local Economy, and Water Sport Community Empowerment. The project consists of two building masses: the receiving building mass and the main building mass, or the floating building mass. The building access is designed to be continuous, starting from the pedestrian bridge leading to the receiving building mass, then the water bridge, and finally the main/floating building mass. The building structure comprises concrete columns with a 3D space frame steel roof structure. HDPE floating pontoons are used for the water bridge, while concrete floating pontoons are used for the floating building mass. The form of the building masses is designed as a parametric icon representing the essence of water.
