This project is a Conservation Research Center project, which is a facility that accommodates community group activities with a focus on educational and recreational activities to create a better mangrove ecosystem. This project focuses on conservation activities, research, and also together with educational and recreational activities. The 2 main facilities, which is environmental conservation and development facilities, as a research function. Other facilities are educational and recreational facilities, people can learn while experiencing the activities that can be carried out in the area. The project, which occupies 25,000m2 of land, is located in Ujungpangkah, Gresik, East Java and was initiated by the Government related to Research and Conservation of Natural Resources (BKSDA) of East Java. The design issues of this project are derived from various aspects that can affect the quality of the mangrove environment, designs that encourage the implementation of environmental conservation strategies, present educational and recreational environments, and consider the context of the waterfront site. There are 4 main concepts in this project, which are Waterfront Sustainable Development, Community Empowerment, Edutourism Environment, and Mangrove as Attraction and Mitigation. The spatial configuration in this project is made as efficient as possible for tourists and other users by defining space zoning with private and public spectrums and also arranging types of space based on their functions and activities. Various functions are placed on the site in accordance with the potential of the site to create an educational and recreational atmosphere that is in the same direction and blurs the boundaries between outdoor and indoor spaces to gain user comfort in interacting and learning about mangrove in outdoor spaces. This project consists of several building masses connected by bridges with the main mass having three stories. The expression of the building is taken from the traditional Dhurung house from Gresik giving the impression of being at home so that users can feel at home while using the facilities, visitors can also study about the Gresik traditional houses which are rarely seen in the center of Gresik city. Building materials are dominated by materials obtained in nature to create conformity with the context that is surrounded by nature. The building structure used includes conventional beam and columns with an exposed gable roof to show a natural impression on the building. text
