Description
Summary:The city of Bandung is one of the cities in Indonesia that is known for its various kind of arts. Unfortunately, in recent years these arts slowly become extinct due to the impact of globalization on society and lack of means to disseminate and perform works of art. For this reason, a facility is needed to preserve these arts and accommodate the activities of artists in the form of a Performing Arts Center. The Performing Arts Center project is planned as a forum that can accommodate artistic activities in an integrated manner in developing things related to the arts, including freedom of expression, action, and creation. As well as providing facilities for the community to be able to participate in learning with the intention of preserving the arts. Performing arts center project is located on Jalan Phh. Mustofa, Cibeunying Kidul with an area of 11,800 m2. This location was chosen because of its proximity to the existing studio and traditional arts environment. This project will accommodate the activities of several art communities, such as Bajidoran, Jaipong, Calung, Sundanese Gamelan, Sundanese Cabaret Theater, Benjang Reak, and Wayang Golek. In this project context and user analysis was carried out and four design issues were formulated, namely the need for exploratory space to work, interact, and collaborate; inadequate educational facilities for performing arts in the city of Bandung; minimal application of local art and culture in architectural design; and context challenges on the site. To answer these issues, three main concepts are used, namely space for interaction, collaboration, and exploration; community public space; and adaptation of local art and culture. Based on the concepts previously described, the Performing Arts Center project is divided into performance and exploration zones, recreational and commercial zones, and educational zones. Each space in these zones is designed to be as flexible as possible following the character of each zone with the concept of open space. In addition, to accommodate various user activities this project also pays attention to access and circulation which makes it easy for all users.
