ALTERNATIVE CINEMA: SYMBIOSIS OF BANDUNG’S FILM SCENE

The ecosystem in the film scene in Bandung grows organically and is used to moving through informal spaces. However, these movements tend to be exclusive and run on their own. This discontinuity causes the film industry to spin in its own space and lose its potential. This raises the urgency to create a collective space that can accommodate film communities and provide alternative screening spaces. Through the concept of symbiosis, this project seeks to form organic interactions in bringing together elements of the film ecosystem. The concept is implemented by forming spaces that are flexible so that spaces are informal and can be operated creatively by users. The screening room was designed not only to have good acoustics, but also to be adaptive and inclusive. This project will cooperate with the Creative Economy Agency in realizing a building that combines the typological functions of a film community center and a cinema center. The building accommodates screening, creative, commercial and educational functions, which are facilitated by four alternative screening studios with different characteristics. Alternative Cinema has a total building floor area of 5200 m2 which is divided into four building floors. The first floor of the building is designated as a public open space and becomes a pedestrian magnet by accommodating commercial functions. Meanwhile, the main screening function is in the form of a cantilever on the fourth floor which uses a vierendeel structure and is supported by a concrete column with a fractured shape as an open gesture.
