Description
Summary:This final project is designing picture story books that can educate young adults about the impact of childhood trauma. This design needs to be done due to the lack of awareness and knowledge of young adults about the behavior and thought patterns anomaly that they feel in the present are due to the impact of childhood trauma that has not healed which has carried over into adulthood. The research method was carried out in a qualitative descriptive manner with data collection techniques from literature studies, interviews, and questionnaires. The selected visual communication design media is a picture story printed book. Printed media was chosen because the messages and information received tend to be faster, more accurate, and easier to understand than digital media (Ackerman & Goldsmith, 2011). The results and conclusions of this design are 1) The most common causes of childhood trauma experienced by young adults in the family sphere are emotional abuse and neglect. 2) Messages are conveyed implicitly because young adults have reached the post-formal reasoning stage of cognitive development, as well as to avoid giving the impression of being patronizing. 3) The design concept is interactive picture story books with the design visual and media concept are adapted for Gen Z young adults aged 18-26 years old. The drawing style concepts use simplified method, textured brush, and warm, shady colors. Typography and language concepts use Indonesian with 2 types of fonts: handwriting and sans serif. The concept of composition is asymmetrical. There are also an explanatory page and interactive pages in the form of blank pages that can be filled in by the reader. The dimensions of the book are 15x20 cm with a hard-cover and tik paper, also equipped with an acrylic metal bookmark
