INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/73383 <p align="justify">The Rebana Metropolitan Area is one of the regions in the northern part of Java Island, encompassing the coastline of three regencys and one city, namely Cirebon, Subang, Indramayu Regency, and Cirebon City, which have a mangrove ecosystem along the coast. The mangrove ecosystem functions to protect the beach and fish ponds from erosion and act as a sediment trap, thus forming land. This study aims to conduct a spatial-temporal analysis of mangrove area dynamics during the period 2017-2021 and assess its impact on sedimentation-erosion phenomena in the Rebana Metropolitan Area. The method used in this study involves analyzing the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and processing the coastline using the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) to obtain a more dominant area that experiences sedimentation or erosion. The data used are Landsat 8 images, and the processing is carried out using Google Earth Engine and Geographic Informastion Systems (GIS) software. This study found an increase in the total area. The mangrove forest area increased from 211.384 hectares in 2017 to 212.092 hectares in 2021, with an additional area of 0.708 hectares. The analysis of changes in the mangrove forest area each year showed variations, with the most significant increase occurring between 2019 and 2020. In terms of changes in the coastline, this study showed variations in the coastline length during the study period. The analysis of sedimentation and erosion phenomena through observations of changes in the coastline showed that 13 districts experienced sedimentation, while 12 districts experienced erosion. In the correlation between changes in the mangrove forest area and changes in the coastline, this study found a positive relationship, although not perfect. An increase in the mangrove forest area tended to result in sedimentation, while a decrease in the mangrove forest area resulted in erosion phenomena. However, there were several sub-districts that did not follow this pattern, indicating the presence of other factors that influence sedimentation and erosion in the area. The conclusion of this study provides an understanding of changes in the mangrove forest area, sedimentation and erosion phenomena, and the relationship between the two in the Rebana Metropolitan Area. This study can be used as a basis for developin effective mangrove conservation and rehabilitation strategies to maintain the coastal ecosystem's sustainability. text
