Description
Summary:Countries in the Southeast Asian region have been experiencing continuous economic growth. The road network infrastructure plays a crucial role in the economic and other aspects of a country and the global community, as stated in SDG 9. This research aims to estimate the maintenance priorities for roads due to damages caused by socio-economic and environmental factors using a spatial approach through remote sensing technology. Both factors are estimated using 10 parameters, including night-time lights, population density, industrial areas, power plants, mining areas, oil palm plantation areas, Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD), Land Surface Temperature (LST), precipitation, and wind. The GIS-MCDA analysis method using summation and bivariate analysis are employed to calculate the road maintenance priority index in the Southeast Asian region and the role of both factors in determining road maintenance priorities. It was found that countries in Southeast Asia with a significantly high level of road maintenance priority include Indonesia (34%), followed by the Philippines (26%) and Malaysia (13%). These findings are validated by reports from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) concerning the transportation sector. Thus, it can be concluded that the integration of remote sensing technology can assist the government and private sectors in planning road maintenance projects.
