Summary: | This research aims to develop a design for a self-protection tool against sexual
crimes that frequently target women in Indonesia. As the world progresses, women's
rights to participate in activities that were previously seen as incompatible with their
gender roles are increasingly recognized. Consequently, the opportunities for crimes to
occur in public spaces have also increased. Universally, women are often victims of
sexual violence because they are perceived as unable to resist coercion. The victim's
inability to fight back is not due to their own will but is caused by an individual's
psychological response to a situation, which can trigger a freeze, flight, or fight
response. These three responses result in different actions but do not eliminate the
possibility of violence occurring. The most common form of sexual violence that occurs
is harassment in public spaces. Sexual violence in public spaces is prone to happen due
to the numerous opportunities created by various factors. These opportunities become
more significant when the target (victim) appears to lack resistance, particularly in the
case of adolescent girls. Therefore, it is hoped that conducting subject interviews,
literature studies, and involving experts in the field will lead to the development of a
design for a self-protection tool against sexual crimes in public spaces. |
