INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/73525 Fashion and the garment industry are inseparable from the lifestyle of modern society and serve as a pillar of Indonesia's national economy. Unfortunately, the economic benefits of the textile and garment industry do not correspond to their environmental impact. This is particularly concerning regarding the waste generated by industrial production, which can pollute the environment if not properly managed. Garment waste is classified as nonbiodegradable, making it difficult to decompose. Therefore, this research applies the strategy of upcycling approach as a concept for utilizing garment waste. The objective is to provide environmental and economic benefits through an organized post-consumer recycling system. The utilization of manipulating fabric techniques is incorporated in this research to address not only the issue of waste quantity but also to enhance waste quality by adding aesthetic and diverse value to the materials. This material utilization concept is implemented in the form fashion products, specifically haute couture, which are expected to increase the products' value and usefulness. Thus, this research has created new visual design forms and designs of high fashion products, consisting of 4 looks, through the exploration of garment waste from household-scale garment industries in Bandung. The resulting products are based on a literature review of the characteristics and trends of the target market, including variations in clothing models, classification and sorting of the used garment waste, the use of neutral colors, high-level sewing techniques, the creation of all-size silhouettes with knotting techniques to accommodate different body shapes, intermediate design models, and garments suitable for specific occasions such as parties and artistic events. text |
