Summary: | The rapid development of industry and technology is increasing every year, leading to changes in human activity, one of which is a change in the work style. Supported by the current generation that is dominated by the millennial generation chooses to work in a more flexible style. The emergence of informal spaces such as cafes, coffee shops, and coworking space in the city of Bandung is one of the options to work for the current generation. This informal space is known as the third place. (third place). Seeing from the phenomenon that is currently in the trend in Bandung City is coworking space and coffee shop selected as a third place (third place) to work for people who want to find a new atmosphere outside of home, office, or campus. The purpose of this research is to identify the spatial physical characteristics of the coworking space and coffee shop in the city of Bandung and look at the impact on the productivity of the user’s work, as well as identify as a third place. The research method used is a mixed method with an exploratory sequential approach, a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The data collection is done by spreading online questionnaires to respondents who use coworking space and coffee shop in Bandung. Qualitative research consists of text data and data collected from 206 respondents and then analyzed using content analysis.
The results of the qualitative data identify architectural motivation, non-architectural Motivation, and activity. The quantitative research consisted of numerical data and data collected from 218 respondents and then analyzed using statistical analysis. Multivariate Regression Analysis is performed to find out the relationship of architectural motivation, non-architectural Motivation, activity towards the productivity of work of users of coworking space and coffee shop. Research shows that coffee shops tend to meet the third place criteria more than coworking spaces. In addition to architectural motivation factors, non-architecture motivation, and activities are not the main factors that affect the productivity of work, but rather affect user satisfaction. There are factors that make users want to visit coworking space and coffee shop such as hygiene, indoor facilities, and services.
