Summary: | Average number of element Au in earth crust is 0,004 grams per ton (ppm). Geological process causes concentration of element Au more than number of average of element Au in earth crust. Gold metal is one of precious metal commodity which have high price and stable market. One of the biggest gold mine in Indonesia is Au-Ag Pongkor mining.

Quartz vein is principal guide for existence mineralization of gold. Typical of mineralogy characteristic and texture (facies) of the quartz vein is applicable to determine the richest gold bearing vein.

This research done based on 27 samples, which taken from surface, the level 515 m, the level 600 m, and the level 700 m. This study includes petrography observation and interpretation of XRD graph.

The quartz textures in the Ciurug vein consist of : massive texture, banded texture, colloform texture, comb texture, breccia texture, and crustiform texture.

The result of the research shows that the Ciurug vein occured in 4 facies formations, such as : facies carbonate-quartz (CQ), facies manganese carbonatequartz (MCQ), facies banded-massive quartz (BMQ), facies gray sulfide-quartz (GSQ). The facies BMQ and GSQ are the richest gold bearing facies.

Hydrothermal alteration in the Ciurug are generally intensive. Samples observed are identify from 5 hydrothermal alteration zones, such as : silicification, Kfeldspar alteration, illit/smectit alteration, argillic alteration, and propylitic alteration. |
