Summary: | Various impact of global warming have recently begun to be frequently felt by us. Rising surfaces temperatures, clean water scarcity, unpredictable weather changes, and widespread forest fires are all long-term consequences of global warming. The main caused is the emission carbon trapped in the atmosphere, which increase the Earth’s surface temperature. These carbon emissions are a contribution from industrial activities in various sectors, including the construction sector. Basically, the construction industry has an indirect contribution to carbon emissions, but resulting from the consumption of electricity that generated by power plants.
The consumption of electricity is primarily distribute to residential and non-residential buildings, including office buildings. In this case, the energy consumption efficiency of building will have a significant impact on reducing global carbon emissions. With precise planning and design method, the presence of office building that accommodating economic activities can be a factor to reducing energy consumption in the industrial sector. This global issue requires tangible implementation to save energy consumption in an absolute sense and not limited in concept level.
Energy consumption efficiency is attempted to be realized in office building by implementing passive design strategies with a bioclimatic architectural approach. This aims to optimize the potential of surrounding environmental condition in terms as supportive needs of activities in office building especially for lighting and cooling. The objective of implemented passive design strategies to optimize natural airflow and daylighting in rooms, thereby reducing the level of electricity consumption could be achieved.
