Summary: | Uncontrolled and land-oriented development has made the existence of canals
disappear. The canal as one of the identities of Pontianak City is threatened to
become marginalized if it is not developed further and remains just a mere sewer.
The lack of development control, especially on the water's edge, namely the banks
of the canal, has become one of the targets of illegal development and threatens the
sustainability of the canal and Pontianak City itself. Based on these problems, it is
necessary to have an appropriate arrangement in maintaining the existence of the
canal and developing the canal so that it becomes a sustainable space. This study
aims to formulate the concept of structuring the Parit Tokaya canal through canal
oriented development. The approach used in this research generally uses a
qualitative approach. The analysis methods used are theoretical descriptive
analysis, empirical descriptive analysis, and SWOT analysis to formulate
structuring concepts and strategies.
The concept offered in the arrangement of the Parit Tokaya canal banks is the
concept of canal development with mixed-use functions that are environmentally
based and friendly to pedestrian access. The banks of the Parit Tokaya canal will
be divided into 4 segments consisting of different characteristics. These four
segments are then implemented with a canal bank structuring concept based on
canal oriented development elements with normative principles of bank structuring
elements, namely building mass layout, land use, accessibility, utilities, and area
image. In addition, the structuring concept will also focus on how to make the canal
an open space that can then generate activities that can be carried out on the banks
of the canal by the people of Parit Tokaya canal itself and the people of Pontianak
City. |
