Description
Summary:Bittern is known as a waste over salt production process which contains high value of magnesium. Magnesium can be synthesized in the form of hydroxide compounds and used as base material for antacid. Thus, bittern as a waste over salt production can be processed and utilized the following necessity. Magnesium contained in antacid commonly on a form magnesium hydroxide, while in the bittern the respective substance on a bond with other ion such as chloride, sulfate, and etc. The synthesis of Mg(OH)2 from bittern can achieve by precipitation method with adding NaOH. Beside that, adding capping agent such CTAB can be done to aim the result of Mg(OH)2 on a nanoparticle scale. The purpose of this study is to observe and compare the effect of adding CTAB on the particle size of Mg(OH)2. The experiment was carried out at atmospheric pressure and room temperature with 1.19 grams of CTAB. The result of synthesis nano Mg(OH)2 are analyzed through XRD and SEM to get on composition and the size of particle.
